Association “Union for Democracy in Belarus” was created by the most socially active part of the Polish society – youth. Decision about creating the organisation was made in August 2003. Although our organisation is relatively young, we group Polishmen as well as representatives of Belarusian opposition who have a long experience in political and social activity. Union’s Headquarters is situated in Warsaw.
While pursuing our statutory goals we are open to co-operation with other organisations both domestic and international whose aims are not contradictory to those fulfilled by the Union.
Among directions of our activity we consider following ones to be the most important:
a) Informing Polish society about social and political situation in Belarus, about violations of the human rights, limiting freedom of speech etc.,
b) Organising actions, pickets, gatherings, conferences, publishing activity etc. for democratic changes and social transformations in Belarus,
c) when possible, supporting Belarusian political parties, non-governmental organisations, social movements as well as national and religious communities according to Polish and international law,
d) co-operating with organisations defending human rights and associations gathering Belarusian citizens.
In pursuit of our goals we collect, analyse and spread information about complying with human rights as well as with basic civic freedoms in politics, economy and religion in Belarus.
We plan mutual help and active cooperation with Belarusian non-governmental organisations, political parties, social movements. Realisation of above-mentioned goals by the Union would not be possible without significant work of our members and volunteers and without support from Polish citizens.
